THE MANIFESTO FILE

WELCOME TO
BREWARCHY

A refusal to accept that communication has to sound corporate to be credible.

NO FOG NO WALLPAPER NO PERFORMANCE THEATER

00 / WHY THIS EXISTS

The problem is not a lack of content.

The world is full of campaigns, content calendars, press releases, pitch decks, reports and strategy documents.

It is also full of brands that sound exactly the same, ideas nobody understands and activity being presented as evidence of impact.

Brewarchy exists because we think communication should do more than fill a calendar.

THE FIRST RULE

Three publications are not a strategy.

They are three publications.

01 / THE REJECTION

We reject activity theatre.

Not because outputs do not matter. They do. They give ideas somewhere to live.

01

THE OFFER

Three publications every month for seven thousand.

Blegh.
02

THE DISTRACTION

A dashboard full of impressions, reach and engagement percentages.

Numbers are not automatically meaning.
03

THE ESCAPE ROUTE

A process so elaborate nobody asks what changed.

Process is not the product.

02 / THE DISTINCTION

Deliverables are not the destination.

A press release is not the win.

A campaign report is not the win.

A content calendar is definitely not the win.

THEY ARE TOOLS.

The win is when the idea lands, the right person cares, the conversation changes, and somebody does something about it.

TOOL CHANGE MOVEMENT

03 / THE WORK

What communication should actually do.

01

Make complex ideas understandable.

Confusion is not sophistication. If people cannot understand the idea, they cannot believe in it, support it, buy it or share it.

02

Make brands distinctive.

If your tagline fits your competitor's logo, you do not have a position. You have a placeholder.

03

Create belief.

People act when they understand what matters, why it matters and why they should believe you.

04

Change behavior.

Communication is not finished when somebody sees it. It is finished when somebody does something.

05

Start conversations.

Broadcasting is easy. Making people respond, question, discuss or participate is harder.

06

Build trust.

Trust comes from clarity, consistency, evidence, honesty and showing up as the same organization in every room.

07

Make the right people care.

We are not trying to make everybody care. The right people matter more than everybody.

04 / OPEN THE FILES

The Brewarchy rules.

Expand the files. Read the fine print. Question the language. Keep the useful bits.

Clarity is not basic. +

Clear communication is not a watered-down version of intelligent communication. It is intelligent communication doing its job.

Distinctive beats polished. +

A polished version of everybody else is still everybody else. A brand needs a point of view, not just a clean typeface.

Strategy must leave the slide deck. +

If the thinking cannot survive contact with the website, the sales team, the newsroom or the real world, the thinking is not finished.

Activity is not impact. +

Busy is not the same as effective. A full calendar can still produce an empty result.

Jargon is not authority. +

Sometimes jargon is useful shorthand. Sometimes it is just fog wearing a lanyard. We know the difference.

The audience is not stupid. +

People are busy, distracted, skeptical and surrounded by competing messages. Respecting their attention is part of the strategy.

Finish the thought. +

Do not stop at “we created awareness.” Tell us what the awareness was meant to change.

05 / THE TEST

Before we call the work done.

01 Did the idea land?

02 Did the right person understand it?

03 Did the brand become more distinctive?

04 Did belief increase?

05 Did behavior change?

06 Did the conversation move?

07 Did trust grow?

08 Did somebody care enough to do something?

If the answer is no, we are not finished.

THE LAST WORD

The work is not what we deliver.

The work is what happens next.
